CUTTING (Versione inglese e italiana)

 DISCIPLINES OF THE WESTERN MOUNT:
  DISCIPLINE WITH LIVESTOCK :
CUTTING

Cutting is a American Mount specialty inspired by the activity of the shepherds engaged in dividing livestock. The objective is to isolate a head from the herd of choice (without frightening the rest of the animals, so the horse must enter the herd quietly) bringing it to the center of the free part of the arena and then preventing it from returning through specific actions. The Horse must demonstrate its innate cow-sense while tending the calf separated from the herd. The assessment that determines the ranks of the tests takes into account the use of the rider's aid that must be limited and corrected. The judges also take into account the determination of the cattle in returning to the herd. For this discipline, the horse's movements are essential, which must be very fast, and that force the rider to stand on the saddle so that he can not be embarrassed.

Any help with the reins equals 1 point penalty, while the help of the legs is only allowed if properly imaged behind the shoulders (spurs on shoulders are punished with 3 penalty points) and in a non-cruel manner. The duration of the test is 2 minutes and a half.

An aggressive attitude of the horse to the calf will result in a penalty of 3 points, while the mistreatment of the horse by the rider leads to disqualification.

The judges also take into account the determination of the cattle in returning to the herd.

In this type of race there are also four turn-backs that have the task of helping the binomial in the work and are placed at the four corners of the arena.
